Fairhope’s Iconic Orange Street Pier

Updated: Sep 9, 2023

I snapped this photo of Fairhope’s iconic Orange Street Pier at dusk the other day. Our first home in Fairhope, Alabama, on Pier Avenue, almost a decade ago, was just up the street from this pier. I’ve witnessed many magical sunrises and sunsets here.

Whether you're a resident or a visitor, this sunset spot never gets old. This is a public pier maintained by the City of Fairhope as part of the the Eastern Shore Trail and Utopia Park that runs parallel to the shore along Mobile Bay. There is a small parking lot directly in front of the pier where Google Maps will take you, but just up the road a little ways, there are a few more parking spaces before the American Legion.

Utopia Park is a lovely place to go for a walk or to sit on a bench and watch the world go by. There's an inviting stretch of beach that runs the length of the park. It's a great place to paddle board, make sand castles, and catch a few rays. That said, always check Mobile Bay Keeper before swimming or wading in the waters of Mobile Bay to make sure that it is safe for you, your family, and your pets.
